Montana Counties

Mineral County is right along Montana’s western border with Idaho. It’s a sliver of land packed with forests, rivers, and outdoor adventures.

In western Montana, Missoula County is where the mountains meet the minds. It’s home to the University of Montana and lots of nature.

Musselshell County is in the middle of Montana. It’s named after the Musselshell River that winds through it. Roundup is the county seat.

Park County is a piece of Montana paradise, just north of Yellowstone. Livingston is the county seat. You might spot a few Hollywood types.

Petroleum County is right in the heart of Montana. It only has about 500 people living here, making it the least populous in Montana.

Up in northeastern Montana, Phillips County is about as remote as it gets. Malta is the county seat, at the intersection of Highway 2 and 191.

Pondera County is just south of the Canadian border in north-central Montana. It’s where the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains.

In the southeastern corner of Montana, Powder River County is about as wild and rugged as it gets. Broadus is the county seat.

Powell County is located in the west-central part of the state, not too far from Missoula. Deer Lodge is the county seat of Powell County.

Prairie County is out in eastern Montana. It’s big sky country for real. Terry is the county seat with a whole lot of heart.

Ravalli County sits pretty in western Montana, next to Idaho. You can find all the major communities here in the Bitterroot Valley.

Richland County is way out in northeastern Montana along the North Dakota border. Agriculture is the key industry here, plain and simple.

Roosevelt County lies in the northeastern corner of Montana, along the North Dakota border. The county seat is Wolf Point in the southwest.

Big skies and rolling prairies define the area of southeastern Montana, where you’ll find Rosebud County. It’s the fourth largest in state.

Sanders County is in the far west of Montana, known for its rugged beauty. The Clark Fork River winds its way through this mountainous region.
