Bertie County, North Carolina

Bertie Location Map North Carolina

Bertie County hugs the Chowan River in northeastern North Carolina. It’s a place where time seems to move a little slower. Windsor is the county seat with its historic district.

The county is known for its peanut farming. But nature is key too. Cashie River has kayak tours and is a peaceful way to explore nature. The Sans Souci Ferry, one of the last inland cable ferries in the state, still operates here.

Bertie has some of the darkest night skies on the East Coast. This makes it perfect for stargazing. Local festivals celebrate everything from blues music to watermelons. The county’s rural character has remained largely unchanged for generations.
