Cowlitz County, Washington

Cowlitz County is in southwest Washington, about an hour north of Portland. The mighty Columbia River forms the southern border of Cowlitz County. Longview and Kelso are the main cities here.
Mount St. Helens looms to the east. It’s now a National Volcanic Monument. The 1980 eruption dramatically changed the landscape. But Cowlitz County has bounced back.
Timber is still big business here. You can often smell fresh-cut lumber in the air. The county’s also becoming a hub for outdoor recreation. Fishing, hiking, and hunting are popular pastimes. Cowlitz County is a place that honors its past while looking to the future.
