Wahkiakum County, Washington

Wahkiakum is a tiny county, hugging the Columbia River in southwest Washington. It’s the one of the least populous counties in the state. Cathlamet, the only incorporated town, serves as the county seat.
Forests and water define this place. The Columbia River flows along its southern edge, while the Willapa Hills rise to the north. You won’t find any stoplights here.
Logging has long been the economic backbone, but fishing and tourism play their parts too. The pace of life is slow, and that’s how locals like it. Ferry boats still travel along the Columbia, connecting the county to Oregon.
