Columbia County, Oregon

Columbia County is in northwest Oregon, bordering the state of Washington. The Columbia River forms its northern border, connecting the Pacific Ocean. Scappoose, St. Helens, and Vernonia form a triangle of timber towns trying to reinvent themselves.
Visitors come to the 20+ mile-long Crown Zellerbach Trail, a rails-to-trails cutting through the heart of the county. The county’s western edge dips its toes in the Coast Range. This area has hills and hollows that are perfect for exploration.
Columbia County is where Portland commuters and old-school loggers coexist, sometimes uneasily. It’s a place in transition, holding onto its roots while reaching for new opportunities. And let’s not forget the annual Scappoose Sauerkraut Festival. Because nothing says “party” like fermented cabbage.
