Ferry County, Washington

Ferry County is way up in northeastern Washington, bordering Canada. It’s rugged country here. The Kettle River Range runs through it, with amazing views and great hiking.
Republic is the county seat. It was once a booming gold mining town. These days, it’s quieter, but no less interesting. The county’s named after Governor Elisha P. Ferry, Washington’s first state governor.
There’s fishing in Curlew Lake, hiking in the Colville National Forest, and skiing in the winter. The population’s small, just over 7,000 people. But what they lack in numbers, they make up for in community spirit. It’s not uncommon to see folks zipping around on snowmobiles.
