Johnson County, Tennessee

Our map shows all green. Do you know why? Because Cherokee National Forest occupies the entire county. It’s mountain country. The kind of place that takes your breath away. Literally – the air’s thinner up here.
Johnson County is way up in the northeast corner of Tennessee. Mountain City, despite its name, is more of a small town. It’s the county seat and the only incorporated town around.
Watauga Lake is a big draw. So does Watauga River and its hiking trails. The Appalachian Trail skirts the southern edge of the county. It’s quiet up here. Peaceful. The kind of place where you can hear yourself think.
