King William County, Virginia

King William County sits between Richmond and the Middle Peninsula in eastern Virginia. It’s named after William of Orange, who became King of England in 1689.
The county has a rich Native American heritage as the Pamunkey and Mattaponi reservations are here. These are two of the oldest reservations in the country.
King William is mostly rural. Agriculture is still a big part of the economy. But it’s starting to see some growth as people look for alternatives to city living. The Mattaponi and Pamunkey rivers are great for fishing and boating. Historians will love exploring old plantation homes like Elsing Green.
