Liberty County, Texas

Liberty County is just east of Houston, but it feels a world away from the big city. Dayton and Liberty are the biggest towns, but there are plenty of smaller communities scattered around.
The county has deep roots. In fact, it was one of the original counties when Texas was still a republic. You’ll see a lot of rice fields here, plus some cattle ranches.
The Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge has great hiking and wildlife watching. On top of that, the Trinity River cuts right through it, creating some prime bottomland hardwood forests.
