Hardin County, Texas

Hardin County is deep in the Big Thicket of Southeast Texas. It’s where pine forests meet swampy bayous. Kountze is the county seat, at the center of it all. But Lumberton is the largest city, which has seen rapid growth in recent years.
The county still has a rural feel and is especially known for its outdoor recreation. For example, the Big Thicket National Preserve offers great hiking and wildlife watching. You might even spot an alligator!
The Village Creek State Park is popular for canoeing and camping. Hardin County has some interesting history, too. It was a hotbed of activity during Prohibition. These days, it’s a mix of old and new Texas. The people are friendly, and the barbecue is top-notch.
