San Jacinto County sits about an hour north of Houston. It’s named after the famous battle that won Texas its independence. The Big Thicket National Preserve spills into the county’s eastern edge. It’s a biodiversity hotspot. Hikers love it.
Lake Livingston, one of the largest lakes in Texas, forms part of the western border. Fishing and boating are huge here. The county seat is Coldspring. It’s a small town with a big courthouse.
San Jacinto County is all about outdoor recreation as the Sam Houston National Forest covers a good portion of the county. It’s beautiful in the fall. The people here are friendly and proud of their Texas heritage.
