Lyon County, Nevada

Lyon County is just east of Carson City. It’s equal parts Old West and new frontier. Yerington serves as the county seat, but Fernley is the biggest town these days. The county’s got a split personality: rural farmland in the south, and bedroom communities for Reno in the north.
Folks here take pride in their agricultural roots, with onions and alfalfa being big crops. The Carson River winds through, providing water and recreation. Virginia City has lots of history to it. It’s just over the county line but casts a long shadow on Lyon’s past.
Fort Churchill State Historic Park showcases Nevada’s frontier days. It’s not all looking back, though. The massive Tesla Gigafactory sits just outside the county, bringing in new jobs and people.
