Esmeralda County, Nevada

Esmeralda County lies way down in the southwest corner of Nevada. It’s one of the least populated counties in the entire United States. Yep, just a tad over 700 people live here. It’s a place where you can really get away from it all.
Goldfield is the county seat, which was once a booming gold rush town. Now it’s a shadow of its former self. The landscape here is pure high desert – stark, beautiful, and unforgiving. You won’t find any stoplights in the whole county. Not one.
Hikers come here for the excellent rockhounding opportunities. The night sky here is something else with so little light pollution, the stars seem close enough to touch. Esmeralda County is not for everyone, but those who love wide open spaces and quiet solitude find something special here.
