Marathon County, Wisconsin

Marathon County sits right in the middle of Wisconsin, taking up a big chunk of the state’s northern half. It’s Wisconsin’s largest county by land area, which means there’s plenty of room for forests, farms, and a fair number of folks.
Wausau is the county seat and is the urban heart of the place. But don’t let that fool you because most of Marathon is pure Northwoods. Rib Mountain looms over the landscape, a favorite spot for skiing and hiking.
Ginseng is big business here. Who knew? The county produces most of the country’s crop. Granite quarries have left their mark too as you can see it in the old buildings downtown. Marathon has industry, agriculture, and wilderness all rolled into one. It’s a hardworking place with a soft spot for the outdoors. Pure Wisconsin.
