Polk County, Tennessee

Polk County sits in the southeastern corner of Tennessee, right up against Georgia and North Carolina. The Cherokee National Forest covers a good chunk of the county.
Benton is the county seat, situated in the northwest of the county. It’s small, but it has character. The Ocoee River runs through the county. It hosted the 1996 Olympic whitewater events. Pretty cool, right?
The Copper Basin is a big part of Polk County’s story. Copper mining shaped this place for a long time. The landscape’s still recovering. But it’s getting there.
