Prince Edward County, Virginia

Prince Edward County sits in the heart of Virginia. It’s a place with a complicated past but a promising future. The county played a pivotal role in the civil rights movement, closing its public schools for five years to resist desegregation.
Today, it’s home to Hampden-Sydney College, one of the oldest men’s colleges in the U.S. Farmville, the county seat, is a beautiful small town with a growing arts scene.
Fishing and boating are popular on the nearby Appomattox River. The High Bridge Trail offers 31 miles of hiking and biking. Prince Edward’s rural landscapes are filled with historic homes and farms. Tobacco was once king here, but now it’s all about tourism and education.
