Sequoyah County, Oklahoma
Sequoyah County hugs the Arkansas border in eastern Oklahoma. Sallisaw is the county seat and is a friendly little city with a surprising amount going on.
Sequoyah County is where the Ozark Mountains start to make their presence known. The county is named after the Cherokee scholar who created a writing system for his people.
Lake Tenkiller is a big draw here. Seriously, it’s beautiful. Clear water, forested shores – the works. The Illinois River is popular for floating and fishing. Agriculture is still important, but tourism is gaining ground.
