US Counties

Monona County is located in western Iowa. It’s home to the unique Loess Hills and the town of Onawa, known for its wide main street.

Montgomery County is in southwestern Iowa. It’s centered around the town of Red Oak, known for its Victorian homes and Civil War history,

Muscatine County is situated along the Mississippi River. The county seat is Muscatine, which is known for its riverfront views.

O’Brien County is in northwest Iowa. It’s a rural area with a strong farming community. Primghar is the county seat, has a historic courthouse.

Osceola County is on Iowa’s northern border. It’s one of the smallest counties in the state by population, with just over 6,000 residents.

Page County is situated in southwestern Iowa. U.S. Highway 71 runs through, making travel easy. Page County is where history and music meet.

Palo Alto County sprawls across north-central Iowa. Emmetsburg is the county seat and it embraces its Irish heritage with gusto.

Plymouth County claims Iowa’s northwest corner, butting up against South Dakota and Nebraska. Le Mars is the county seat.

Pocahontas County, in north-central Iowa, is a rural area. The area is primarily agricultural. Pocahontas is the county seat in the center.

Polk County is Iowa’s most populous county and home to Des Moines, the state capital. The State Capitol building overlooks downtown.

Pottawattamie County stretches along Iowa’s western border. Council Bluffs sits right across the Missouri River from Omaha, Nebraska.

Poweshiek County lies in east-central Iowa, named after a Mesquakie chief. Montezuma is the county seat, located in the south of the county.

Ringgold County hunkers down in Iowa’s far southern tier, bordered by Missouri. It’s one of the least populous counties in Iowa.

Sac County is in northwest Iowa, named after the Sac Native American tribe. Sac City is the county seat with the World’s Largest Popcorn Ball.
