Valencia County, New Mexico

Valencia County straddles the Rio Grande, just south of Albuquerque. It’s where urban meets rural. Los Lunas is the county seat. It’s growing fast. Belen, the other big town, calls itself the “Hub City”. It’s an important railroad junction.
The county has deep roots. The first Spanish settlers arrived in the 1600s. You can still see their influence today. Tomé Hill is a local landmark. It’s been a pilgrimage site for centuries.
The bosque along the Rio Grande is a green oasis. It’s great for hiking and bird watching. Agriculture is still important here. Chile peppers are a big crop. The county has a strong Hispanic heritage. You can taste it in the food, hear it in the music. The University of New Mexico’s Valencia campus is also here.
