Wise County, Virginia

Wise County is up in Virginia’s far western reaches. It’s coal country. The industry shaped this place for generations. You can still see its influence today. But the county is working hard to diversify its economy.
Tourism’s playing a bigger role now. The Jefferson National Forest covers part of the county. It’s gorgeous. Hikers and campers love it.
There’s history here too. Ever heard of the “Trail of the Lonesome Pine”? It’s an outdoor drama that tells the story of the region. The University of Virginia’s College at Wise is here. It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?
