Atkinson County, Georgia
Atkinson County is a small, rural slice of south Georgia. You’ll find it just above the Florida line, part of Georgia’s coastal plain. Pearson, the county seat, is home to about 2,000 people.
There’s lots of farming with tobacco fields and pine forests dominate the landscape. The county got its name from William Y. Atkinson, a former Georgia governor.
The Alapaha River winds along the county’s western edge. Small-town charm is Atkinson County’s calling card. Folks here are proud of their agricultural roots. But hunting and fishing are also popular pastimes.
