Calhoun County, Georgia

A popular misconception is that Calhoun County, Georgia, has something to do with Fort Calhoun. It doesn’t. That’s in Nebraska. This small, rural county in southwest Georgia is named after John C. Calhoun, a former vice president.
Morgan serves as the county seat, a town you could miss if you blink. Farming keeps the economy going. Peanuts are king here, with cotton a close second. The Chickasawhatchee Wildlife Management Area takes up a good chunk of the southeast. Say that five times fast.
Calhoun County is real quiet. It’s the kind of place where gossip travels faster than internet signals. The population has been shrinking for years. Folks here are used to making do with less. It’s not a place for everyone, but those who call it home wouldn’t have it any other way.
