Clay County, Georgia
Clay County is tucked away in southwest Georgia, right on the Alabama border. Fort Gaines serves as the county seat. The county is named after Henry Clay, the famous Kentucky senator.
Lake Walter F. George (or Lake Eufaula, depending on who you ask) forms the western border. There’s good fishing, if you’re into that. Farming’s still big here. Peanuts and cotton keep the economy going, barely.
Unfortunately, Clay County has been losing population for years. You won’t find any fancy restaurants or big-box stores. Just quiet country living and a whole lot of history.
