Kentucky Counties

Edmonson County sits in south-central Kentucky, home to much of Mammoth Cave National Park. Brownsville is the county seat.

You’ll find Elliott County in eastern Kentucky, where the Appalachian foothills start to get serious. It’s where everybody knows everybody.

Estill County is right in the middle of Kentucky, straddling the Bluegrass and Eastern Coal Field regions. Irvine is the county seat.

Fayette County is in the middle of Kentucky and home to Lexington, the state’s second-largest city. It’s horse country though.

Fleming County is in northeastern Kentucky with lots of rolling hills. Flemingsburg, the county seat, is your typical small town USA.

Floyd County sits in eastern Kentucky, right in the thick of the Appalachians. Prestonsburg is the county seat of this county.

Franklin County is in central Kentucky, home to the state capital, Frankfort. The Kentucky River cuts through the entire county.

Fulton County’s is in Kentucky’s southwestern corner, so far west it’s practically in Tennessee. The Mississippi River is located in the west.

Gallatin County hugs the Ohio River in northern Kentucky, just a stone’s throw from Cincinnati. Warsaw is the county seat.

Garrard County sits in central Kentucky, right in the heart of bluegrass country. It was named for James Garrard, an early governor.

Grant County is in northern Kentucky, just a quick drive south of Cincinnati. I-75 cuts right through the county through Williamstown.

Graves County sits in the Jackson Purchase region of western Kentucky. The county’s big on agriculture, especially tobacco and corn.

Grayson County is in west-central Kentucky, home to not one, but two lakes – Rough River (in the north) and Nolin Reservoir (in the south).

Green County is smack in the middle of Kentucky, where the hills start to roll. Greensburg, the county seat, sits on the Green River.

Greenup County is up in northeastern Kentucky, where Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky are located. The Ohio River forms its northern border.
