Coryell County, Texas

Coryell County is in central Texas, not far from Waco. Fort Hood, one of the largest military installations in the world, dominates Coryell County. Gatesville is the county seat, but most folks live in Copperas Cove.
The Leon River cuts through the northern part of the county. It’s hill country, with some beautiful views. Ranching is still important, but the military is the big economic driver. You’ll hear a lot of “hooah” around here.
The county’s history goes way back. There are Native American burial mounds scattered about. It’s where small-town Texas and military culture mix. On any given day, you might see cowboys and soldiers sharing a beer at the local watering hole.
