Dunn County, North Dakota

Dunn County sprawls across west-central North Dakota in the Badlands region. The landscape is a mix of rugged buttes and rolling prairie. Killdeer is the biggest town and county seat. About 750 people live there.
The county is named after John Piatt Dunn, an early settler. He ran a big ranch here in the late 1800s. These days, both ranching and farming are still important. But oil’s the big player now.
Dunn County sits on the Bakken Formation. That’s brought a lot of changes in recent years. The population’s grown and so has the economy. Little Missouri State Park is a local highlight because it’s a great spot for birdwatching.
