North Dakota Counties

Adams County sits in the southwestern corner of North Dakota. It’s a place where the prairie meets the Badlands. Hettinger is the county seat.

North Dakota lies in the heart of eastern Barnes County. Valley City is the county seat and is known as the “City of Bridges”.

Benson County stretches across north-central North Dakota. It’s mostly a land of lakes and rolling hills. The Spirit Lake Reservation is here.

Billings County is where the Badlands begin. It’s in southwestern North Dakota. Theodore Roosevelt National Park’s south unit is here.

Bottineau County is up in North Dakota’s north-central region. It’s right on the Canadian border with the Turtle Mountains as an attraction.

The southwestern corner of North Dakota is home to Bowman County. Wide open spaces define this rural area. Bowman is the county seat.

Burke County sits in the northwestern part of North Dakota. It’s oil country alongside wheat fields. Bowbells is the county seat.

Burleigh County is the heart of North Dakota. Bismarck is the state capital and calls this county home. It’s known for its government offices.

Cass County is the most populous county in North Dakota. It’s in the southeastern corner of the state. Fargo is the county seat here.

Cavalier County occupies the northeastern corner of North Dakota. Langdon is the county seat. Agriculture dominates the landscape.

Dickey County is in southeastern North Dakota, right along the South Dakota border. Ellendale is the county seat but Oakes is most populous.

Divide County is up in the northwest corner of North Dakota. It’s right on the Montana and Canadian borders. Crosby is the county seat.

Dunn County sprawls across west-central North Dakota in the Badlands region. The landscape is a mix of rugged buttes and rolling prairie.

Eddy County is in east-central North Dakota. It’s small, one of the state’s least populous counties. New Rockford serves as the county seat.

Emmons County stretches along the Missouri River in south-central North Dakota. Linton is the county seat with about 1,000 residents.
