Grant County, North Dakota

Grant County is in southwestern North Dakota. Cedar Creek forms the southern border with Heart River cutting through the northern region. Like most of the prairies, there’s farming too, at least where the land allows it. You’ll also find some serious badlands terrain here.
Carson is the county seat, but it’s tiny with only about 300 people. Elgin is the biggest town, with around 600 folks. It’s cattle country with ranching as the main game.
The county’s named after Ulysses S. Grant. Yeah, that Grant – the Civil War general and president. It was established back in 1916. Oil’s become a factor in recent years. The county sits on the edge of the Bakken Formation. That’s brought some changes, for better or worse.
