Morton County, North Dakota

The mighty Missouri River slices through the eastern side of Morton County. Mandan is the county seat, which sits just across the river from Bismarck. The two cities form a mini metro area.
But drive a few miles out and you’re in cattle country. Rolling hills stretch out. Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park is a must-visit spot. Cavalry troops once rode out from here to fight indigenous people.
Today it’s all about hiking, camping, and history. New Salem is home to “Salem Sue” – the world’s largest Holstein cow statue. It’s goofy, but fun. The county has a rich Native American heritage too.
