Kossuth County, Iowa
Kossuth County holds the distinction of being Iowa’s largest county by land area. It sprawls across north-central Iowa, covering a whopping 974 square miles.
The county seat is Algona. Founded in 1854, the town serves as the economic and cultural hub of the county. It was also a World War II German prisoner-of-war camp, now a museum.
The county’s population hovers around 14,000, so it’s not exactly bustling. But that’s part of the appeal of Kossuth County. Today, Kossuth County is still all about farming, but folks here aren’t stuck in the past. They’re keeping their rural roots while rolling with the times.
