Mariposa County, California
Mariposa is in the Sierra foothills, and it’s all about Yosemite. A big chunk of the park’s in the county. The town of Mariposa is small but cute with lots of Gold Rush history.
There’s good hiking all over, not just in the park. It’s rural, so don’t expect much nightlife. But if you’re into stars, the night sky is amazing.
They’ve had the county fair since the 1930s here. It’s a place to slow down and enjoy the mountains. Highway 140 runs through and the population is small, just over 20,000 people.
