McIntosh County, North Dakota

McIntosh County occupies a patch of south-central North Dakota. Ashley serves as the county seat. It’s home to the Tri-County Fair each July. Crowds flock in for tractor pulls.
German-Russians settled here in droves back in the day. Their influence remains strong. You’ll hear German spoken in cafes and farm supply stores.
The county has battled population decline for years. Hunting is huge, deer especially. Doyle Memorial State Park is in the north-central region. Vast wheat fields stretch to the horizon. It’s beautiful in its own prairie way.
