Pocahontas County, West Virginia

Pocahontas County is an outdoor lover’s paradise in the Monongahela National Forest. They call it “Nature’s Mountain Playground” for a reason. It’s in the eastern part of West Virginia, where the mountains get serious.
This place is huge and is the third largest county in the state. But people? Not so many. That means wide-open spaces and untouched wilderness. The Greenbrier River Trail stretches for miles, perfect for biking or a lazy float.
Snowshoe Mountain Resort brings in the winter crowds. But the real gem is the Green Bank Observatory. It’s in a “quiet zone” with poor cell phone coverage. Imagine that! You’ll find some of the darkest skies in the East here. Stars for days.
