Putnam County sits in central Georgia. Eatonton is the county and largest town. The county is a mix of history and lakeside. You’ll find Lake Oconee here, which covers the eastern part of the county. 

Putnam’s been around since 1807, named for Revolutionary War hero Israel Putnam. The area’s literary heritage shines through in tributes to native sons Joel Chandler Harris and Alice Walker.

Dairy farms are everywhere on the landscape, showing off the county’s agricultural roots. The annual Dairy Festival celebrates this heritage each June. You’ll also find antebellum homes and modern golf resorts side by side here.
