Roosevelt County, New Mexico

Roosevelt County sits on the eastern edge of New Mexico, right up against Texas. This is farm country, plain and simple. Fields of peanuts, cotton, and sorghum stretch to the horizon.
Portales, the county seat, is home to Eastern New Mexico University. The county has deep roots in dairy farming. It’s one of the top milk producers in the state. Cannon Air Force Base is nearby so you’ll often see military planes zooming overhead.
The landscape is mostly flat. But it has its own kind of beauty. Blackwater Draw, an important archaeological site, is here. It’s where they found evidence of the Clovis people.
