US Counties

Buffalo County is a tiny slice of South Dakota. Gann Valley, the county seat, holds the record for the least populous in the nation.

Butte County is in the far northwestern corner of South Dakota. The county’s named after the buttes that are here on the landscape.

Campbell County sits in north-central South Dakota, right up against North Dakota. It’s one of the least populous counties in the state.

Charles Mix County is in the southeastern part of South Dakota. The Missouri River shapes the western border of this county.

Clark County sits in northeastern South Dakota. It’s farm country with lots of wheat. The county was named after Newton Clark.

Clay County is down in the southeastern corner of South Dakota, bordering Nebraska. The Missouri River forms the southern border.

Codington County is located in eastern South Dakota. Watertown, the county seat, is a hub of activity. It’s also the biggest city.

Corson County is way up in north-central South Dakota. It’s right on the North Dakota border. McIntosh is the county seat, but it’s tiny.

Custer County is in the Black Hills region of western South Dakota. It’s home to Custer State Park and Crazy Horse Memorial.

Davison County is right in the heart of southeast South Dakota. Mitchell is the county seat and is famous for its Corn Palace.

Day County is located in the middle of northeastern South Dakota, where the prairie stretches far. Corn, soybeans, and wheat fields.

Deuel County is in Eastern South Dakota, right on the Minnesota border. The county was named after Jacob Deuel, a politician.

Dewey County is located in north-central South Dakota. The Missouri River forms the eastern border of this county.

Douglas County sits in the southeastern part of South Dakota. Farmers here know their stuff. Corn and soybeans are common crops.

Edmunds County is in north-central South Dakota. Agriculture is the main industry here, just like most of the state.
