Butts County, Georgia
Butts County. All jokes aside. The county is actually named after Samuel Butts, an officer who was killed in the Creek War in 1814. Sitting just southeast of Atlanta, it’s close enough for big city amenities. Jackson serves as the county seat.
Indian Springs State Park is a local favorite, bringing folks with its mineral springs and hiking trails. The Ocmulgee River and Jackson Lake form part of the eastern border.
Butts County is a mix of old and new. You’ve got historic homes in Jackson and new subdivisions popping up near I-75. It’s not the sleepy rural county it once was, but it’s not quite a suburb either.
