Quitman County, Georgia

Quitman Location Map Georgia

Quitman County is tiny in size and tucked away in southwest Georgia. It’s actually one of the state’s smallest counties. Georgetown, the only incorporated city, serves as both the county seat and hub of local life.

The county’s been around since 1858, named for John A. Quitman, a Mexican War hero. Lake Walter F. George (also known as Lake Eufaula) forms the western border with prime fishing and boating. You’ll find more boats than cars some days.

Agriculture still plays a role here, but the lake’s allure is the real draw. The annual Lake Eufaula Bass Tournament brings anglers from far and wide. Quitman County’s small population fosters a tight-knit community where everyone knows their neighbors.
