Griggs County is in east-central North Dakota. Lakes and prairies define the landscape here. The Sheyenne River winds through the county. It’s carved out some beautiful scenery. Cooperstown is the county seat.

Recreation’s a big deal here. Fishing, hunting, and birdwatching are popular. The county’s named after Captain Alexander Griggs. He was a steamboat captain and founder of Grand Forks. 

Agriculture is the economic backbone. Wheat, soybeans, and sunflowers are major crops. You’ll find some cattle ranching too. The county has a strong Norwegian heritage. It’s a quiet place, but the people are proud of their home.
