Lewis County, Tennessee

Lewis County is right in the middle of Tennessee, about halfway between Nashville and Memphis. Ever heard of Meriwether Lewis? This county’s named after him.
Hohenwald is the county seat, which is German for “high forest”. Fitting name. Trees are everywhere. The Natchez Trace Parkway cuts right through here. It’s a great drive, especially in fall.
The county has a unique claim to fame. It’s home to The Elephant Sanctuary. Yeah, real elephants. In Tennessee. Who would’ve thought? It’s a quiet place, but that’s part of its charm.
