Lumpkin County, Georgia
Lumpkin County is one of Georgia’s hidden treasures. It’s tucked away in the North Georgia mountains, about an hour north of Atlanta. Lumpkin County is home to part of the Chattahoochee National Forest with top-notch hiking and camping.
Dahlonega, the county seat, is famous for being one of America’s first major gold rushes. You can still pan for gold in local streams. Yep, it’s a hit with tourists. But the historic square is a real gem, lined with shops and restaurants.
The wineries here are making a name for themselves. You’ll find some great tasting rooms scattered around the county. The University of North Georgia adds a youthful energy to the area. Fall is popular here, especially the autumn colors.
