Union County, Georgia
Union County is a mountain paradise in northeast Georgia. It’s where the Chattahoochee National Forest meets the Blue Ridge Mountains. Brasstown Bald is Georgia’s highest peak no matter the time of year. The views from up there are something else.
Blairsville, the only incorporated city, serves as the county seat. Downtown Blairsville has a charm all its own. It has lots of local shops and restaurants. The Sorghum Festival each October is a big deal, celebrating the sweet syrup.
Vogel State Park is a favorite for camping and fishing. Fall turns the mountains into a painting of reds and golds. Winters can be harsh, but that’s when the locals head to Nottely Lake for some ice fishing. The Georgia Mountain Research and Education Center keeps the area’s farming heritage alive. Union County is mountain living at its finest, pure and simple.
