Wilkes County, Georgia

Wilkes Location Map Georgia

Wilkes County offers a refreshing taste of old Georgia charm. It’s about two hours east of Atlanta, tucked away in the Piedmont region.

Washington is the county seat, located in south-central. The town’s historic district has a bunch of well-preserved antebellum homes. It’s refreshing to see how much locals care about preserving their past.

The Broad River forms the northern edge of the county. Agriculture still plays a big role here as you’ll see plenty of farms and cattle. The Mule Day festival each October is a quirky local tradition.
