Adair County is in the northeastern part of Missouri. The county was named after Kentucky Governor John Adair, a war hero. Kirksville, the county seat, is home to Truman State University.
Rolling hills and farmland dominate the landscape. Thousand Hills State Park is a popular spot for visitors. Fishing, hiking, and camping are big draws.
The area has a strong Amish community, who are known for their craftsmanship and simple way of life. Despite its rural setting, Adair County has galleries and theaters scattered throughout.
