Barton County, Missouri

Barton County is right in the heart of Missouri’s prairie lands. It’s where the Great Plains start to roll, creating a landscape that’ll make you want to pull over and snap a photo.
Lamar, the county seat, is famous for being the birthplace of President Harry S. Truman. You can still visit his childhood home. But Barton County’s not stuck in the past. It’s farm country, sure, but with a modern twist.
You’ll see massive wind turbines spinning alongside traditional wheat fields and cattle ranches. The people here are proud of their agricultural roots. They host one of the best county fairs in the state each summer. Prairie State Park is another local park.
