Buchanan County, Missouri

Buchanan Location Map Missouri

Buchanan County sits in the northwest corner of Missouri. St. Joseph is its biggest city, once a jumping-off point for settlers heading west. It’s also the county seat.

The Pony Express started here. These days, it’s known for its impressive mansions and museums. You can still see the house where Jesse James was shot.

The Missouri River forms the county’s western border with Kansas to the west. It’s prime farmland, with corn and soybeans as far as the eye can see. Locals are proud of their barbecue.
