Charlton County, Georgia

As one of Georgia’s southernmost counties, Charlton County stretches along the Florida border. It’s home to a big chunk of the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge, which brings in all sorts of nature lovers.
Folkston serves as the county seat, a small town with an unusual claim to fame as the “Train-Watching Capital of the World”. The county is named after Robert Charlton, a U.S. Senator from way back.
It’s rural. Real rural. Farming and timber keep the economy going. The St. Marys River forms part of the southern border. It’s good fishing, if you don’t mind sharing the water with gators. Charlton County isn’t for everyone. It’s quiet, remote, and a bit wild.
