Chattooga County is in northwest Georgia, right up against the Alabama line. Summerville serves as the county seat, a small town with a big heart. The county is named after the Chattooga River, which forms part of the county’s northern border.
Farming used to be king here, but these days it’s all about carpets. Mohawk Industries is a major employer. The county has some hills and valleys, being at the southern end of the Appalachians.
James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park draws hikers and campers. Chattooga County is proud of their mountain heritage. They’re also proud of their high school football team. It’s the kind of place where you can still get a good home-cooked meal and a friendly nod from a stranger.
