DeKalb County is up in northeast Alabama with Fort Payne as the county seat. It was once known as the “Sock Capital of the World” due to its many hosiery mills. DeKalb County is in the heart of Alabama’s Black Belt.

The band Alabama is from here. They’ve got their own museum in Fort Payne. But it’s not all about music. DeKalb County has plenty of nature such as Little River Canyon National Preserve and DeSoto State Park.

The population is about 73,000 people. U.S. Highway 11 and Interstate 59 make getting there a breeze. The county is named after Major General Baron Johann de Kalb, a German officer who served during the American Revolutionary War.
