Cooke County, Texas

Cooke County sits right on the Texas-Oklahoma border. Gainesville is the county seat, known for its Medal of Honor Host City program. It’s the only place in America with seven Medal of Honor recipients.
The county is a mix of prairie and forest. Cattle ranching is still big here. But so is the equine industry. People come from all over to buy horses. Lake Ray Roberts is a popular spot for fishing and boating.
The county fair is a big deal every fall. Oil and gas keep the economy humming. It’s close enough to Dallas for day trips, but far enough to keep that small-town feel. Folks here are proud of their Texan heritage.
